In an odd move for an acclaimed thriller director like Sion Sono (Cold Fish, Love Exposure, Suicide Circle), his next project will be a comedic TV series consisting of 12-minute episodes, based on a manga by Kiminori Wakasugi (Detroit Metal City).
Minna! Esper Dayo! (“Everyone, we’re all ESPers”) starts airing in Japan on April 12, and features a series of raunchy gags about high school students with psychic powers (a teleporter who can’t bring his clothes along, virgins with powers triggered by sexual frustration, etc). The original manga was never a big hit in Japan, so I wonder if Sono was just a fan or something.
