Director Ryuhei Kitamura knows where his bread is buttered, which is why he’s been teasing a sequel/remake/Americanization of his 2000 breakout zombie-vs-yakuza hit Versus periodically ever since its initial release. His latest statement came out this week, during promotions for his new film No One Lives, saying to expect a sequel to Versus (which I guess would also be a sequel to Versus‘s predecessor, Down To Hell) in 2014, and also promising that star Tak Sakaguchi would come out of retirement for it. Whether the comment was considered or just off-the-cuff, a follow-up to Versus must be as oft-requested of Kitamura as Evil Dead 4 (or Army of Darkness 2? Within the Woods 5?) is for Sam Raimi.
(On a side note, for people who’ve never seen the movie and want to know what all the fuss is about, check out the 2004 Ultimate Versus special edition, and certainly not any of the R-rated cuts.)
