Weekly News Recap for April 25

Not a lot to report this week:

  • As usual, the latest Nyarlko-san OVA has got a lot of visual nods to Kamen Rider:

  • The new Lupin III anime will be airing on RTI in Italy next month, but not in Japan until the fall (shock). It looks good!
Also, Ryuhei Kitamura’s live-action Lupin III movie hits Australian DVD/Blu on June 24th, and the Lupin III anime film Jigen Daisuke’s Gravestone is now on hulu.

  • The octopus-monster pedagogical drama Assassination Classroom is getting a second anime season and a second live-action film. No surprise there, as the first movie made a gajillion yen at the box office.
  • The first Vampire Hunter D movie is getting a new dub from Sentai Filmworks. I’ve got no strong attachment to the Streamline release, but heads-up for those who do, I guess?
  • Akira Toriyama and Masakazu Katsura are teaming up again for a new manga in Young Jump. Hopefully this one doesn’t get a super-limited subscription/convention-based English printing like Sachi-chan Good did.
  • Peach Pit (the duo behind DearS, Zombie Loan, and Rozen Maiden) will be doing a manga short for the Neo-Parasyte project in Afternoon magazine. The title translates to something like “Tell me, Professor Reiko Tamura”, so we can guess which character it’ll focus on. I wonder how their relatively soft art style will mesh with Iwaaki’s weird, monstrous universe?
  • With the Clockwork Apple kickstarter meeting its first stretch goal, Osamu Tezuka’s Brave Dan will also be getting an English-language print run. It’s been available digitally for a while, but it’s nice to see a physical incarnation, especially since emanga can sometimes be a hassle.
  • Pacific Rim 2 has been pushed back to August 4, 2017. Could be worse, at this point it’s so far off that a few months change is pretty much irrelevant.
